Poseidon Ponds & Landscaping of Dexter, Michigan is Hiring

I look back to that day four years ago when I decided to leave a very comfortable position with a company that I had been a part of for 10 plus years and truly can't believe how far we have come.  February is typically a month where most people see a landscaping company as one that is sitting around looking at weather forecasts hoping for snow.  To us at Poseidon Ponds & Landscaping it is a very busy month filled with business planning, maintenance contract negotiations, new  landscape project meetings, new landscape project estimates, home builder show prep, marketing strategies, etc.

This year we have decided to add a very special addition to our February, A Job Recruitment Event.  What the heck is that you ask...  Well since Poseidon Ponds & Landscaping has shown continued growth and since our project calendar is starting to fill up we have decided that we need more people to help us grow and continue our success.  This event is designed to allow potential employee prospects to have an experience where they are able to learn who we are, where we have come from and where we are going.  Unlike a simple advertisement they get a chance to sit down with us face to face and learn what the job and our company is all about before they submit an application.  We feel that in today's world it is very important to have a picture painted for you before you choose a path to take.  It is impossible for us to express what a great company Poseidon Ponds & Landscaping is to work for in a job posting so why not host an event and prove it.

We have seen the power of creating a culture within the company where people are able to learn about what they do, contribute with their own creative minds and be part of a company that cares about their well being.  Aquascape, Inc. has a philosophy that we feel is a model we aim to copy.  Here is what they think, "Culture is a way of living that is most often associated with artistic and intellectual pursuits. The Winter Landscaper - Part Two

During the winter months of Southeast Michigan landscapers have lots of time between snowfall events.  What they chose to do with that time varies considerably.   It sounds kind of silly but the purpose of being in business is to stay in business.  Being able to work on your business doesn't always come easy for any industry, but if you don't you will have a very high rate of failure.

From my days at Michigan State University, the guidance of my Ameriprise financial advisor  to the many Aquascape, Inc. seminars I have had the idea of constantly improving my business from head to toe pinned to me.  What does this mean?  Well on of the many great things about a business is there is always room to improve.  We can improve how we function as a business, we can change how others see our business and many other things. 

Policies and procedures allow me, the entrepreneur,  to impliment the ideas in my head.  From there my employees can follow the procedure and follow the policies.  Sounds simple but even the greatest companies have to tweak their policies and procedures many times before they are perfected. My winter months afford the time to do just that. 

It will always be our goal to improve Poseidon Ponds & Landscaping from top to bottom so while you are counting the days to spring know we are working hard to serve our clients to the highest level.  So as we get closer  to Spring there is one more part of our Winter Landscaper series, new projects.  Stay tuned for the final installment.

Bend History

Today I watched an amazing video from Prince Ea about changing the world we live in and the quote from Robert F. Kennedy moved me and inspired me to blog about this very thing.  Why did this move me?  What does this have to do with landscaping?  As I go about my life daily there are certain things that stick out to me.  As long as I can remember I have a unique memory that compiles certain events, words, pictures, etc. into categories or topics and at some point it hits me that the topic or category is reappearing or surfacing often in my life.  The very words, "each of us can work to change a small portion of events,"  comes to mind.

The Robert F. Kennedy quote moved me because I feel very strongly about the small things that grow from the tiniest seed into massive trees that completely change our whole landscape.  My entire life I have been touched, amazed and captivated by nature and the earth's smallest inhabitants.  I guess being small in physical form helped...  As I grew up I found myself always in touch and involved with this very subject.  In school it interested me the most, in my free time I found myself there and at night I would dream about it.

I collected rocks as if they were currency, planted every seed to see what it would grow into, changed the course of streams to understand flowing water and ultimately chose to study it for my higher education.  It was to no surprise of those that know me that my career and lively hood is all about nature and its inhabitants.

So to the point, I know and understand that it is my path in life to not only build landscapes but to use what I know, what I have learned, what I have experienced and use that as a vehicle to plant those little seeds for others so that they too can change their landscapes.  Those that have met me from family, to friends, to employees, and even clients will tell you that I always drop facts, knowledge and many cool ideas about nature and the things that don't have an avenue to speak up.  Those small ripples are passed along so we can not only look around, but stop and see how incredible something at 1 millimeter in size is.  Words from  Ed Beaulieu "The Scientist" from Nat Geo Wild's Pond Stars taught me something very important about ecosystems, not just about in nature but our lives in general. Our world is one giant web and each and every little piece has its purpose.  Without that one piece all others may fail.  Don't forget and neglect that little thing, that small ripple, or that tiny seed because it can tear your world down or it could bring you to your paradise.

Kennedy with his children was chosen on purpose.  Each and every moment I spend with my children, or my nieces and nephews I show them and teach them all about the cool little things that are right in front of us.  Nothing makes me happier than watching my daughters eyes get big when we discover something new together.  What I teach them, show them and provide for them will improve and guarantee a better future for their children and so on.
